Annie Sellick is very much a jazz singer but she is also a storyteller and her rendition of emotionally complex songs is masterfulshe is also a stunning visual performer — Roger Crane the L.A. Jazz Scene
This Nashville native and jazz vocalist performs less frequently in her hometown these days, so this appearance is a special one. Annie not only makes her debut at Rudys Jazz Room but is also announcing and celebrating a new recording project Big Big Time — The Songs of Tom Sturdevant Vol. 2. Having collaborated with friend and hero Chris Walters (piano) to arrange and record the music of one of Tom Sturdevant (one of her best friends), this album is Annies eighth and hands down most eclectic and original project to date. Youve heard her in town or abroad with her six-piece swing band Annie and the Hot Club (who also made an album of the songs of Tom Sturdevant).
Since her musical beginning in Murfreesboro, TN having sat in with the late guitarist Roland Gresham Sr. and hired on the spot, she was voted Best Jazz Vocalist by readers of the Nashville Scene five years in a row. She sang for a sold out crowd with the Nashville symphony. She was the resident vocalist for the Nashville Jazz Orchestra for eleven years. Grassroots spread like wildfire and she started making guest appearance with big bands around the country. Shes toured with Mark OConnors Hot Swing, recorded albums and performed with jazz luminaries Joey DeFrancesco, Gerald Clayton, the Jeff Hamilton Trio, Akira Tana and Tommy Emmanuel, with whom she is the featured performer for his Christmas Classics Tour.
Please join Annie for this very special evening of brand-new material with Chris Walters (piano), Zeb Briskovich (bass) and Chris Brown (drums) and special guests. And sit back and relax letting one of the most entertaining singers in the biz welcome you to the world and music dear to her heart.
