Before dedicating her life to beer, Jackalope Founder Bailey Spaulding spent her college years running around an island full of monkeys (in the name of science, specifically evolutionary psychology). Cayo Santiago, off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico is home to a thousand Rhesus Macaque monkeys, and is the longest running primate field site in the world. The monkeys of Cayo Santiago are still near to her heart, so much so that four years ago we brewed a beer named after one of them — D07. The brew was a white wheat ale aged in a spiced rum barrel.
When Hurricane Maria swept over Puerto Rico last month, the first thing Bailey thought of was the people of Punta Santiago. The village, home to the staff of Cayo, was largely destroyed in the storm. Many of the townspeople lost everything.
This Friday, we will once again be releasing D07 in our taproom. In an effort to help aid the community of Punta Santiago, fifty percent of this week's sales from D07 will go to hurricane relief efforts for Punta and Cayo Santiago.
We will be joined by our friends at Dan's Gourmet Mac & Cheese truck from 3-6pm for all of your delicious Friday food needs!
