«President Trump on Tuesday ordered an end to the Obama-era program that shields young undocumented immigrants from deportation, calling it an “amnesty-first approach” and urging Congress to pass a replacement before he begins phasing out its protections in six months. As early as March, officials said, some of the 800,000 young adults brought to the United States illegally as children who qualify for the program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, will become eligible for deportation. The five-year-old policy allows them to remain without fear of immediate removal from the country and gives them the right to work legally.» (NYT, Sept. 5, 2017)

Please join La Alianza and the Immigration Law Society as we host a panel discussing the legal and policy issues surrounding the DACA program and its recent termination. Lunch will be provided.

Panelists include:
Robert Barsky, Professor of French, English and Jewish Studies, Professor of Law, Vanderbilt University

Jonathan Hiskey, Associate Chair of Political Science and Director of Graduate Studies, Vanderbilt University

Karla McKanders, Clinical Professor of Law, Vanderbilt Law School

Spring Miller, Assistant Dean for Public Interest, Vanderbilt Law School

Visitors should park in the Terrace Place Garage, spaces 41-92, at the corner of 21st Ave. South and Terrace Place, or the Wesley Place Garage, spaces 52-170, at the corner of 21st Ave. South and Scarritt Place.
