* THIS IS AN INFORMATION PAGE FOR ALL PEOPLE INTERESTED IN PLAYING IN OUR ANTIPHONAL BRASS SECTION DURING THE PERFORMANCE OF RUSSIAN CHRISTMAS MUSIC — THERE WILL BE A SEPARATE PAGE FOR OUR CONCERT EVENT — ONLY SIGN UP HERE IF YOU ARE PLAYING IN ANIPHONAL BRASS*
Well — The Brass Band of Nashville is going to play Russian Christmas Music again this year. It was such a special and meaningful experience in 2015 — I'd like to do it again.
The 2015 experience ended up being even more meaningful to me because our antiphonal brass section was nearly all TTU alumni. So, I'd like to more formally «work» this — and, I'd like to open this up on a first come, first serve basis to our alumni that would like to be involved in this special event.
For those of you that don't know — we have a brass band arrangement of the piece, and we have added Pipe Organ. We double the parts from (as I recall the famous measure is 219) the «big push» and go all out with the intent of blowing the roof off the church.
I call this going «Full Hermann» — which is much better than «Half Hermann» — because, we all know there is no such thing as half Hermann!!!
In all seriousness. This piece is very special to us all. All years, all decades — it's one of the most epic and dynamic pieces of music that has been created. Those of us that were around for the first performance at Tennesssee Tech in December of 1989 were immediately connected to the special way that Mr. Hermann did the piece with the added brass and organ. So, since the love of the piece is really all his fault — it's a fitting tribute to our fine University, our experiences there that bind us and his love, infulence and direction.
So — let's do it!!!
If I have invited you to this — you are Tech alumni. I am inviting one reed instrument to see if she would be interested. If so — we can see what we can come up with.
I have invited a special guest to be a part of this. I am not looking for him to «work» — but, if he wanted to do something, that would be of course, amazing. I don''t know if he can make it — because, Holy Cats — you know the guy is crazy busy.
You know we all love him — this is a tribute to «his thing» anyway.
Getting together with you when we did it last was amazing. I had lost six friends in 2015 in six weeks — including my mother. The fact that you folks participated and honored my band in the way you did is something I will never forget. I can't thank you enough.
There's time to plan!!!
Stay tuned to this event page for updates as we progress along this year. The date is GOOD!!!
December 7th!!! Russian Christmas Music that will live in INFAMY!!!!
